Second overall picks of the new age NBA have range from 2010’s pick Evan Turner to the 76ers to the 2018 pick where the Kings drafted Marvin Bagley III.

Evan turner has played for 4 teams in his 8 year NBA career. The 76ers who drafted him, the pacers, the Celtics and the trailblazers who he currently plays for. He has also been on a playoff team for 7 out of his 8 seasons. Averaging almost 11 points per game over his eight season span Turner has always been a good all around basketball player.

Derrick Williams was drafted with the second pick in the 2011 draft. He has been on 6 different NBA teams since he was drafted. Although last season he went overseas to play and this year he still hasn’t been signed from free agency. Williams has always been known as an athletic high flyer.

2012 was another lack-luster year for the second overall pick, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. In his six year NBA tenure Gilchrist has only played for one city Charlotte North Carolina. When he was drafted Charlotte was known as the Bobcats, where now everybody recognizes them as the Charlotte Hornets. Michael has always been a great defender but it all ends there. He has never been a great scorer or spot up shooter. Now-a-days every team will always need defensive help so it is safe to say his job will always be safe in today’s NBA.

In the year 2013 the Orlando Magic selected Victor Oladipo with the second pick. Oladipo is an all-star and one of the best players in the eastern conference today. He was involved in the trade that send him to the Pacers and Paul George to the Thunder the season before last. He averaged a whopping 23.1 points per game this past season and looks to be the future of the NBA.

2014 was another great story line, the Bucks selected Jabari Parker. Parker played 3 seasons with the Bucks, until this past off season where he signed a deal with the Bulls in free agency. Parker has shown himself to be the king of the second option. Where it looks like he may be playing the same role with the Bulls next to Zach Lavine.

In the years 2015,.2016 and 2017 the LA Lakers held the second overall pick in the draft. In 2015 they selected D’Angelo Russell, in 2016 they got Brandon Ingram, and finally in 2017 they picked up Lonzo Ball. They have since traded Russell away to the Brooklyn Nets. While they still have both Ball and Ingram, they are even building their team around Lebron James, and these two players. Since being in the League Ingram has shown non stop improvement. The same can be said for Ball, as we seen towards the end of the season last season he started to get into his rhythm. Russell has become the center piece for the Nets. Going young its great to see the face of the team has only been in the NBA for 3 years.

In this past years draft the Sacramento Kings got Marvin Bagley III. Will he be the next Victor Oladipo or the next Derrick Williams? He has a lot of potential to grow and play multiple positions in this league. The Kings could see the light of a new era with Bagley, De’Aaron Fox, and Willie Cauley-Stein.
